Vacation Week Update...

A plea from Mr. D! WE NEED INSTRUMENTS!  I am asking anyone who may have an unused band instrument sitting around ( or knows someone who does) to PLEASE consider donating it to our music program!  Once we research the make, model and serial number we'll give to you a school letterhead that will include the value of the instrument.  You may use this as a tax write-off in April!  If you have any questions please contact the band office at 740-625-6055, ext. 2185, or e-mail Chuck Dettmar at:  chuck.dettmar@centerburgschools.org.   Thanks again!!  This week's schedule ... Jazz Band:  There will be no jazz band rehearsal this Monday night. Indoor Color Guard:  Winter Guard will hold practice on Monday, Dec. 21st from 3-5 PM. COVID "Instrument Mask" (bell cover) update ...  We have ordered an instrument bell cover for all band students in grades 6-12 at no cost to parents !  Bell covers will be mandatory in all band rehearsals and classes once school resumes in January

Happy Holiday Updates...!

Bravo!!!   to all the bands and choirs who recorded their virtual concerts on Monday and Tuesday!  We couldn't be prouder of you guys for being so understanding and patient, and for continuing to forge ahead on your instruments... putting the Centerburg Music Department on the map again and again!!! Recordings...  Are currently being professionally  edited and mixed.  We will let everyone know when they'll be available for viewing.  NOTE :  To get the full effect use a high quality sound system or a good pair of headphones.  This was professionally recorded just like a CD!  Yeah!!! Finally...  Happy Holidays from all the Centerburg Music Faculty.  You all deserve a break!  God Bless!

Instrument cover update...

Band  Instrument Cover Update... Originally we were going to ask parents to send-in payments for the instrument COVID covers because they were going to be $19 per mask, but since then we found them for $5-$6 per cover and the school has offered to try to purchase them for us!  No payments from home are needed!  Sorry for any confusion!

COVID - 19 Instrument Bell Cover Requirement for January

Hello all wonderful band members and their families.   Happy Holidays!!!               Instrument Covers! Beginning in January it will be a requirement of each and every band member to use an instrument " bell cover " to minimize the level of aerosol produced by playing an instrument.  These literally cut the aerosol (amount of humidity and droplets) coming out of the instrument by up to 80%!!  Students will need to be equipped with their bell covers at all times.  Unfortunately, there is nothing for flutes, as the physics of playing the flute do not lend themself to wearing a mask or bell cover. We are working with Rettig Music in Dublin to contract the best price possible price, and right now we're right around $5.50 - $7.00.  A flyer will go home with your son or daughter early next week (right after the concert recordings are done) and we really ask for you to return your payment to the band office by the due date so we can place the order in a timely fashion!    👀

It's Virtual Concert Preparation Week!

Announcements... The Virtual Holiday Concerts for band and choir will be recorded professionally during the school day on Monday, December 14th (BANDS) and Tuesday, December 15th (CHOIRS) .  Performances will take place during each group's usual class period , mixed professionally and made available for families to watch online. Those students who are currently at home are permitted to participate and will need to sign-in with their director as soon as  entering the building!  We ask them to please arrive 15 minutes before the class begins!  Music students do not need to go through the main doors of the school, but may (and should) simply use the event entrance.  Band members should simply come through the huge double doors to the backstage area and sign-in on the counter to their left.  From there they may come and take their 6' spaced seats on stage.  Both Hallway and backstage doors to the outside will remain open before, during and after all performances for optimum ven

Weekly Update

Week of Nov. 30th - Dec. 4th... Jazz Band:  There will no jazz band practice on Monday evening, Nov. 30th.  We will only have one more practice before we record the jazz band portion of our holiday concert after school on Monday, Dec. 14th at 3:30 PM .  We will try to sneak one more practice in sometime!  PLEASE NOTIFY YOUR COACHES ABOUT MONDAY, DEC. 14TH AT 3:30 PM.  THE RECORDING SHOULD ONLY TAKE A HALF HOUR OR SO! Band & Choir Holiday Concert Recordings:   The school has hired Mr. Alex Thompson to professionally record both the middle and high school portions of the holiday concert.  Most recordings (other than Middle C Choir, Jazz Band and possibly 7th grade band)  will take place during the school day, and a recording schedule will follow early this coming week!  "Virtual" students [if permitted by their folks] will be asked to join us only for the recording of the musical groups in which they take part.

Thanksgiving Update...

Happy Thanksgiving! I think that this year we have some things to be especially thankful for.  Thank God our little hamlet of Centerburg has only seen a tiny portion of what has been transpiring nationwide with this horrible plague, and we thank the guy up above for protecting us and letting us continue to make music together!  Being "close" to the worst of the pandemic, I think we can can see a silver lining to this very dark cloud in the very near  future, and want all the music students and their families to know that we music directors are doing as best we can to keep everybody safe and healthy in the meantime!   God Bless! ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1.  No Jazz Band Rehearsal this Monday! 2.  No after school or evening music lessons this week! See ya on the rebound! 🦃

Great Job today everybody!  We have a super bunch of "Newbies" and incoming Freshmen!  Kudos!! I know...  It was HOT!   A note to the parents of new members:   Marching band is physical and is demanding of students on many different levels.  It was obvious at today's practice that some of our members were a little, oh how do we say...?  Out of shape?!  Band members need tons of water and "sunscreen".  They also need to do some basic conditioning .  We spoke today in orientation about stretching, sit-ups, pull-ups and push-ups, leg lifts, etc... as well as some aerobic workouts.  This is outside of band practice!   Marching drummers need to do at least what is mentioned above + some work with super-circuit cycles, and weights (not necessarily free weights) in the wellness center or other gym.  This is really something that should have been done over the summer but with the COVID crisis, was unable to happen.  You can still catch-up.  These drums are anywh

Attentional all 2020 Marching Band Members AND Parents... The Marching Band Staff at CHS will be posting a Pre-Band Camp video shortly to go over "in person" all the questions and concerns that have been rolling in.  We won't only be talking about Coronavirus stuff so CHECK IT OUT"!   We'll try to get it up on the Music Department Facebook Page as well!
