Concerts and more... Upcoming Concerts: Tuesday, December 12th:  Elementary and 6th Grade Band & Choir Concert. (DONE!  Great Job!) Thursday, December 14th:  7th and 8th Grade band & Choir Concert. Monday, December 18th: High School Band & Choir Concert ALL concerts begin at 7:00 PM and student report time is 6:30 PM.  7th and 8th grade band members should be on stage no later that 6:15 PM (just prior to the concert) for their final dress rehearsal! Note:   Participation in concerts is mandatory and receives a grade! 7th Grade Method Book Payments:  A letter has gone home to all 7th grade band students requesting payment for our next method book (Traditions of Excellence Book II).   The cost of the book is $10.95 and the percussion books are $13.50.   We had asked for payments to be received by December 15th so the order could be made.  We want to start the students in the book as soon as school begins in January.  Please make all checks or money orde

It's Concert Season

Congratulations! ... to all of our esteemed marching band members and their families for participating in a super, fantastic, groovy and far-out Marching Band Awards and reception last evening!   We have heard nothing but positive feedback from the event, and obviously plan on making it an every year event.  Special thanks goes out to our super-dee-duper Centerburg Music Boosters for setting up the reception table and providing all the coffee, paper products, utensils and clean-up!!! Welcome Winter Season Lots of exciting stuff! Thank you, Thank you!  to all the parents who volunteered their time at the Utica/Centerburg Bandtoberfest on October 21st!  The directors salute you and appreciate the time and effort you put in to the event.   Monday, Nov. 20th at 7:00 PM (caf)   Marching Band Awards Banquet and Reception Awards: ( 1st year pins, 2nd year letters, service bars ) for all members, as well as special awards.  Everyone is asked to bring a dessert to share . NEW!   Indoor Winter Percussion   ( Includes drum line and pit percussion ) - Open to ALL students in grades 8-12 regardless of their participation in band.  First practice is Monday, November 13th from 3-4 PM .  Attendance at all Monday practices is mandatory .   No exceptions! 2017 CHS Athletic Pep Band:  Sign-ups are currently on the white board in the band room.  Students are asked to please place check marks by the basketball games they are able to attend and be sure to be present!  ( Any

Congratulations!!! on a great 1st Bandtoberfest band show hosting!  Thank you to the Centerburg Music Boosters, all the parent volunteers, directors and instructors and, of course, the marching band for all their hard work and dedication! Marching Band Schedule:   Looks like this is the end...! This Friday, Oct. 27th:  Practice from 3-4 PM.  Away game at Fredericktown at 7:00 PM. Monday, Oct. 30th - ALL marching band shoes removed from garment bags and taken home until the springtime!  Please DO NOT leave shoes in school! Jazz band Schedule:   (Practices are mandatory) - jazz band is a graded and credited course Tuesday 7:30 8:00 AM. Wednesday 3:00 - 3:45 PM Pep Band Sign-ups:   Coming soon! Music Update: Bandtoberfest 2017! When:  This coming Saturday, Oct. 21st  (Starting at 7:00 PM) Where: Utica High School Football Stadium Who:   Centerburg, Utica, Highland and East Knox Marching Bands What:  Marching Band Festival sponsored by both the Utica and Centerburg Music Departments AND Music Boosters! We still need parents to sign-up (register online at the CHS Music Booster Facebook Page). We need:  Ticket takers, concession workers, band hosts, traffic coordinators, etc...etc... Spectator Admission is $5 , $3 for seniors and students and FREE for children under 5. Centerburg Band Members:   Report time to school on Saturday, Oct. 21st is 4:00 PM .  We will load the trailer at that time.  The buses will pull-out at 4:30 PM! Weekly Update:  Week of 10/9/17 High School Band Announcements - *   Marching Band Practices:  Are Monday (3-4:30), Wednesday (3-4:30) & Friday afternoon. *  This Friday is Senior Night and we will be performing the "Senior" halftime show! NOTE:   MARCHING BAND STUDENTS ARE ONLY TO USE THE "CAFETERIA-AREA" RESTROOMS OR LOCKER ROOMS TO CLEAN-UP AND CHANGE BEFORE A FOOTBALL GAME.  IN ADDITION, THE ONLY DOOR BAND MEMBERS MAY USE WHEN RETURNING TO SCHOOL "AFTER" A GAME IS THE EVENT ENTRANCE (MUSIC HALL).  Please do not bang on doors or run around the school attempting to find an open door.  The school administration does not want any student in the halls after a football game!  Thanks! *  This Thursday, Oct. 12th the marching band will be playing at the Girl's Volleyball game !  Everyone is asked to be in their seats in the gym (same as a pep rally) BY 6:00 PM!  Wear your band polos. *   H.S. Concert Band Chair placement recordings

Weekly Update: It's Homecoming Week! Marching Band practices:  Monday = 3:00 - 4:30 PM, Wednesday = 3:00 - 4:30 PM & Friday = 3:00 - 4:00 PM.  (Pizza Dinner on Friday)  Please bring $5 for pizza by Thursday! Wednesday Homecoming Parade:  Band members please report in band polos and jeans to the Centerburg Post Office no later than 6:45 PM .   The parade steps-off AT 7:00 PM! Friday:  We will practice on the field in our pre-game block on the 50.   Alumni Band Members have been invited to join us at 3:30 PM for a run through of the half-time music.  Songs to include:   Fight Song , Son of a Preacher Man and Land of a Thousand Dances .  You may use your flips, but please practice your music! Weekly update:   9/25 - 9/29 Marching Band Activities: 1)   Wed.  9/27 - Marching Band Practice from 3:00 - 5:00 PM  on the regular band practice field.  Bring your DOTS as we will be blocking the SENIOR SHOW! 2)  The North Union Marching Band Festival is this coming Saturday, Sept. 30th.   The show begins at 6:00 PM.   Band member report time to school is 3:30 PM .  Buses will leave promptly at 4:00 PM.   Spectators are welcome! Note:  We are aware that we have some students coming directly from a volleyball game ( and other activities) and have asked them to please try to get a car pool going.  Please make arrangements so you'll have your uniform and instrument when you get to North Union.  See Mr. D. or Mrs. Culbertson for directions if needed! Weeky Update: 1)   Marching Band Schedule: Monday, 9/18 :  Full Marching Band from 6:15 - 8:30 (Varsity Field) (No Percussion Practice beforehand) Wednesday, 9/20 :  Full Marching Band  from 3:00 - 5:00 PM  (School Field) Friday, 9/22 :  Full Marching Band from 3:00 - 4:30  (School Field) 2)   Mount Vernon Marching Band Festival:   This Saturday!   Schedule below . 5:00 PM - Arrive at school, suit-up and load trailer (Your uniform should be on - minus the jacket - when we load the buses!) 5:30 PM - Leave for MVHS 6:00 PM - Arrive and warm-up 6:50 PM - Line-up in staging area. 7:00 PM - Show begins ( we are the 5th band on ) Logistics:  Tickets are $5 at the door for all spectators.   Come cheer-on the band! 3)   It's Middle School Band Night !   All 7th & 8th Grade band students are invited to join the marching band this Friday evening, September 22nd for the home game against Highland.  Middle Schoolers should wear some kind of spirit wear or school colo

Weekly Update 9/11/2017

This Week: 1)  Just a reminder to all marching band members that we have some Saturday performances coming up.  We have 2 band festivals and participation in them is mandatory.  If there are ANY conflicts (school-related only) we need to know immediately.  The first is next Saturday, the 23rd at Mount Vernon , and the other is on September  30th at North Union . 2)   Saturday is the Old Time Farm Festival Parade .  Marching Band members should meet at school by 9:00 AM , suit-up, load the trailer and be ready to step-off by 9:45 AM . When we arrive at the park we'll perform all 3 parts of our Pentatonix show.  we should be done by Noontime! 3)  This week's football game is away against Cardington.   We will be in full uniform . 4)   6th Grade Band:  All 6th grade band students will be given a copy of the "Rotating Lesson Schedule" so they will know when to report for music lessons!   ALL 6th graders should have signed-up for the 6th Grade Band Google Clas

Week of Sept 4th Marching band Announcements: 1)  Due to the Labor Day weekend, there will be no marching band practice on Monday evening, September 4th .   BUT... there will be marching band practice at the Varsity Field on Tuesday, September 5th from 6:30-8:30 PM.   (This was not originally on the schedule).   ALL pit and battery percussion should arrive BY 5:30 PM for warm-up and sectional rehearsal, with the rest of the band joining by 6:15 PM. 2)   This Friday night (September 8th) we will be in full uniform for the football game.  Students and parents are asked to please check the length of the uniform pants and either iron and/or hem them if necessary .  The stripe on the side should be absolutely straight,  and pants should not be touching the ground.  Although they have adjustable buttons, it may not be enough, and a couple of stitches around the bottom may be necessary (yes, you are allowed to do that!) This Week: Attention 6th Grade Band Students & Parents:   We begin rotating instrumental music lessons during period 3 intervention today!  All schedules and group listings are in all 6th grade classrooms! Marching Band will have practice this week on Monday evening at the Varsity Field .  The pit and battery percussion will "BEGIN" their practice AT 5:45 PM , with the rest of the band joining on the field at 6:15 PM .   PLEASE BE SURE TO LOAD YOUR INSTRUMENT ON THE TRAILER BY 2:30 PM!  You will need to be sure you have your music , drill and dots !  Wednesday's practice is from 3-5 PM on the band practice field at school! Weekly Update 8/21/17

Attention: Tonight's (Monday, Aug 21st) evening marching band practice and ice cream social will now be held on our regular school practice field .  The Varsity Field was just sprayed for insects and we will not be permitted on it for a few days. We were just notified of this an hour ago! Everything else stays the same;   Drum Line and Pit rehearsal AT 5:45 PM (that means to show up at 5:30 PM!)  with the rest of the band on the field by 6:15 PM .  MONDAY NIGHT PRACTICES ARE ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY!  If anyone has a game or scrimmage they need to "e-mail" Mr. D. by the end of the school day.   See ya tonight! Middle School Bands: We're off to a super start! By now, all students should have been assigned a band room locker in which to keep their instrument, and have brought home the Instrumental Music / Band Handbook along with the returnable parent sign-off sheet.   The sign-off sheet is due by this Friday, Aug. 25th for a 10 point grade.   "New"

Band Camp Week #2

Happy Monday Everyone! Just as a reminder... This is the "Official 2nd Week" of band camp! We will be working from 4:00 'till 7:00 PM tonight (Monday, August 14th), as well as Tuesday the 15th and finally Wednesday the 16th . Attendance is Mandatory!  This is very important if we are going to reach our goals! Reasons why you may need to be absent: 1)  You're sick   (need a note from home when you return) 2)  Your family is out of town 3)  You have an engagement to an athletic team (scrimmage or game only) 4)  You have a doctor's appointment that is absolutely necessary (unable to be rescheduled) Reasons why  NOT to be absent:   ( These will be labelled as " unexcused " - 3 of which will result in the student not being able to perform in a half-time performance ) 1)  You need to work 2)  You need to babysit 3)  Social Engagements 4)  You need to go shopping for your new school clothes and supplies 5)   Routine doctor, dentis

Pre-Band Camp Announcements

Happy Band Camp Everyone! It's gonna be a super season with a super "big" show (Pentatonix), a Military Show , the Alumni Band Show show and finally, the Senior Show .  Your Seniors have picked some great music for their show this year.  Now all they have to do is write it and teach it! First Day of BAND CAMP is:   Thursday, August 3rd ( Camp Meeting begins in the band room AT 8:00 AM! )  Please be early !!! "IF" you are a marching band member who may also be involved in another activity such as athletics, cheering, etc.. we ask that you please be present at the 8 AM meeting for the initial roll call and so all co-activity forms may be distributed and completed.  (Forms are due by the very next day).  These forms are for anyone who may need to be absent from ANY part of band camp for reasons such as athletic or cheering practices, Hartford and/or Ohio State Fair participation.   STUDENTS ARE NOT EXCUSED FOR SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS, JOBS, BABYSITTING,

Weekly Update: June 1st - 5th, 2017

Update:  June 1st-5th, 2017 Thank you Trojan Pride Marching Band for another super Memorial Day Parade!  Your commitment does not go unnoticed. Our next event is the USA Days Parade on Saturday, June 24th (report time is at 9:30 AM and the parade steps-off at 10!)   We will have a practice the day before (Friday, June 23rd from 5-7 PM) to go over our music and march a little bit for our new members!   This event does include all incoming freshmen and new members.  We'll distribute your polo shirts when you arrive at practice on the 23rd. Friday evening Percussion Practices:  As a reminder, the drum line and pit will continue to meet from 7-8:30 PM each and every Friday evening in June up until the USA Days Parade on June 24th! Extra Marching Band Music Help:  is being offered from 7-8:30 each and every Friday evening during the month of June.  Come for an hour, 15 minutes, 45 minutes, whatever ...  and get help from Mr. D. on your music.  This is NOT a band rehearsal,

Weekly Update: Congratulations Seniors!   You made it!  Your commitment to your music and to the music program has helped prepare you for anything you endeavor!  You have inspired us all by your dedication to the program and by your pursuit of excellence in music education.  Good luck in everything you do!   We will surely miss you! Memorial Day Parade 2017:   (Monday, May 29th)  Band members should meet (in summer uniform - polos, khakis and white sneakers) at 9:45 AM to load the band trailer.  We will all then meet at 10:00 AM at the Centerburg Post Office for the parade to the cemetery.  Musical selection will be a)   Star Spangled Banner and b)   You're a Grand Old Flag . Weekly Update: #1   6th Grade End-of-Year Playing Tests / Chair placements are this week.  This is a 100 pt. test.   See Google Classroom for complete description of the assignment!  #2  The last M arching Band Drum line & Pit Percussion rehearsal of the year is this Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the band and choir rooms. #3  This year's Annual Marching Band Organization Meeting is this Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.  All participants and at least one parent are required to attend.  The meeting should not be more than 15-20 minutes, but all new members are required to sit with either a director or music booster officer immediately following the meeting to enter their data and order their supplies .  Students who have an athletic commitment should have notified Mr. Dettmar by now.  There will be a "sign-in" sheet for attendance.  Thanks!!! #4  All high school band students who are Freshmen, Sophomores or Juniors need to participate in this year&

Announcements:   Week of May 8th - 12th 2017 Marching Band Schedule   (Click for Link) Drum Line and Pit Percussion TONIGHT (Wednesday, 5/10) at 7 PM! Elementary and Grades 7/8 Concert Tomorrow, May 11th. Everyone  please donate a goody for our bake sale! 6th Grade Playing tests begin next Tuesday during period 6 band ( and will take the majority of the week) .  Testing materials are available on Google Classroom . . Knox Community Youth Summer Band:  By now all band students in grades 6 through 8 should have brought home and showed their parents the information about this new summer music experience.   Band practices are once-per week in the evenings and the cost is only $10 per student - for the whole summer ( and it includes a t-shirt)!   GREAT OPPORTUNITY!  Annual Marching Band Organization Meeting :  is next Thursday, May 18th at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.   All new members should come prepared with a check in the amount of $25 for their music polo shirts.

There's a little something here for everyone... Spring Concerts:       Monday, May 8th   at 7:00 PM - High School Concert & Awards  (Reception in cafeteria following.  (All students are asked to bring something for dessert!)      Thursday, May 11th at 6:30 PM - Elementary/6th Grade and Grades 7/8 Concert.  ( Elementary students and 6th graders report at 6:00, 7th and 8th report at 6:45 PM)  There will be a bake sale during intermission so please try to donate something to the bake sale table. Drum line & Pit Percussion:  Will have 2 more evening practices before school is out.  The first is on Wednesday, May 10th , and the second is on Wednesday, May 17th .  Both practices begin at 7:00 PM . Bandtoberfest Parent Volunteer Meeting at Utica HS

Bandtoberfest 2017 That's right!  Centerburg HS and Utica HS have combined efforts to host a band festival this coming October 21st!  We need lots of parent volunteers for the day.  We will be meeting with the Utica boosters and parent volunteers on Tuesday, May 16th at 7:00 PM in the Utica HS Band Room.  We'd love to have you join us!   Please RSVP to Chuck Dettmar at: chuck.dettmar@centerburgschools.org no later than Friday, May 12th.  Look forward to seeing you there!  Go Trojan Pride!!!

Weekly Update: April 17th - 21st

April 17th - 21st, 2017 Congratulations all Florida Trip Participants!  The trip was a success, and we all had a super time!  Thank you again to all the parent chaperones.  We honestly couldn't have done it without you!!! 2017-18 Drum Line Practice this Wednesday evening, April 19th  from 7:00-8:30 PM. High School Jazz Band:   Practices continue each and every Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 - 3:45 PM.  Last practice is Monday, May 8th! Middle School Jazz Band:  Our last 4 practices for the year are on April 20th, 27th and May 4th and 11th .  6th Grade Band:   No further weekly recording or playings of exercises  will be required .  You will have an "end of year" performance test that will include portions of your band music, scales or percussion rudiments, sight reading and 1 exercise or example from your method book.  These will be posted on the 6th Grade Band Google Classroom within a week or so. Weekly Update 3/27 - 3/21

Attention parents of 7th and 8th grade band and choir students:   Change of concert date !!! Because the 8th grade Gettysburg trip was scheduled for the same time as the 7th and 8th Grade Concert the date needed to be changed.  The new date is Thursday, May 11th! This is the same evening as the elementary 4th/5th and 6th grade concert .  There "will" be a bake sale in between the two concerts, so please help out the music boosters by dropping-off a "goodie" to be sold that night.  The schedule is below.   Thank you!
