ALL Brass Tomorrow!!

Super Job today woodwinds! It's gonna take time, but you're gonna do great!  Usually we've already had the music for a few months by now so don't feel bad about how you may have played!  It can only get better, right!  Now go practice!! Drumline and Pit Percussion are doing an awesome job! But they're out in the sun and need some shade! 👎  If any families would be willing to loan or donate a tent-covering for them that would be great!  We'll take care of them!  Please drop them-off at the band trailer tomorrow morning!  PLEASE!!! 👍 ALL Brass Sectional Tomorrow (Wednesday) 1.  12:45 PM - Check-in at table ( right in front of auditorium entrance doors).  They'll check all your forms and tell you what to do next.  ( Please wear your mask when you are checking-in!) 2.  Place your instrument out of the way and find an orange dot on the warm-up field.  They're far apart so when you get there you may remove your mask! 3.  If you don't have o

ALL Woodwinds tomorrow...!

Great Job today everybody!  We have a super bunch of "Newbies" and incoming Freshmen!  Kudos!! I know...  It was HOT!   A note to the parents of new members:   Marching band is physical and is demanding of students on many different levels.  It was obvious at today's practice that some of our members were a little, oh how do we say...?  Out of shape?!  Band members need tons of water and "sunscreen".  They also need to do some basic conditioning .  We spoke today in orientation about stretching, sit-ups, pull-ups and push-ups, leg lifts, etc... as well as some aerobic workouts.  This is outside of band practice!   Marching drummers need to do at least what is mentioned above + some work with super-circuit cycles, and weights (not necessarily free weights) in the wellness center or other gym.  This is really something that should have been done over the summer but with the COVID crisis, was unable to happen.  You can still catch-up.  These drums are anywh

Marching Band Staff to post Video!

Attentional all 2020 Marching Band Members AND Parents... The Marching Band Staff at CHS will be posting a Pre-Band Camp video shortly to go over "in person" all the questions and concerns that have been rolling in.  We won't only be talking about Coronavirus stuff so CHECK IT OUT"!   We'll try to get it up on the Music Department Facebook Page as well!

Show changed to 6 foot spacing!

Attention: This year's field show for marching band has just been changed to a 3-step interval (spacing) all around! * 6 feet is 3.2 steps, so we're  at just about 5 and 3/4 feet apart! The OMEA (Ohio Music Educator's Association AND the CHS Marching Band Staff "strongly" recommend getting together a special "light"cloth mask (probably homemade) with a " mouthpiece slit " cut in it.  It is recommended for both outside (because you're moving-around) as well as indoor use.  Whenever not playing the instrument it is a good idea to to keep nose and mouth covered.   While "Across-the-Board" guidelines and regulations have been given by the school administration, the band has been given permission (because what we do is so much different than anything else) to employ further recommendations for student safety. NOTE:  The OMEA had recently contracted a scientific study dealing with the effect of playing in band indoors and

Pre-Band Camp Update

Greetings to all our esteemed musicians! Just a couple things before we get ready for camp! 1) The marching band show has been sent to the drill (show) designer with the exact number of students who have registered for marching band.  "IF" you know your child WILL NOT be participating we absolutely need to know now.  Show design is costly, and we cannot afford to have it re-written if students or their folks decide last minute not to participate.  Thank you! 2) Marching Band mailers are going home today (Wednesday) so you should receive them in a day or so.  In the mailer is explicit information dealing with how we'll keep your son or daughter safe throughout the band camp and season.  You will also find a COVID-19 WAIVER FORM from Centerburg Schools which MUST be signed and returned before any band student may participate.  These will be kept on file in the principal's office. 3) NOTE:   Band students are all encouraged to participate in marching ba

Early July Update...

Hello Everybody! Hope you're all doing well and having a nice summer!  Just a few things... 1) I am waiting for a report back from the school superintendent concerning the health rules and regs pertaining to marching band participation this season.  Our "mini" band camp (mandatory) begins on Monday, July 27th (see full schedule) and we WILL BE MAKING THINGS AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE FOR BOTH BAND MEMBERS AND BAND STAFF.  I'll be mailing home a letter to all band members' families as soon as I learn what the final decisions consist of. NOTE:  The final decision come from the Knox County Health Department, our own board of education and the school superintendent. 2) Monday evening drumline, pit and guard practices have been going great, and I've been really impressed how much music they've learned AND how well they've been adhering to the mask and social distancing rules!  Kudos!!!👍 3) BAND MUSIC:  Will most likely be handed-out during the
