Announcement Update...

Announcements      (Last one 'till New Years!) Attention Parents of 7th & 8th Graders... Just a "heads-up" regarding our Spring performance evaluation trip .  The trip is a one day event on Saturday, May 18th, 2018.   We will be spending the day at Kings Island Amusement Park , but will  be performing at an area high school or college beforehand.  We usually leave around 7 AM and return around 10 PM, and the cost per student hovers right around $50-$60 pp. and includes the year's music t-shirt that we will be wearing to perform as well as in the park so our kids are easy to "spot".  More information will be sent home after the new year! Attention High School Band Students... January 19th marks the date of this year's Ohio Wesleyan University High School Honor Band.   Students will be attending from Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, New York and Pennsylvania!  NO AUDITIONS!  Obviously any student participating is going to b

Weekly Update:  October 22nd - 26th, 2018 Marching Band: Monday:   NO PRACTICE Tuesday:  HS Jazz Band Practice - 7:00 - 8:30 PM Wednesday:  Marching Band Practice:  3:00 - 4:30PM . (Outside Practice???)  TBA! Friday:  Home Game against Fredericktown (SENIOR NIGHT!) - Seniors please return your senior bio forms to Mr. D. or Mr. Porter!!! Friday Band Dinner:  Color Guard - SOUP! Friday Update:  It looks like it's going to be rainy, windy and cold tonight.  Please dress warmly under your uniform and grab your raincoat on your way over to the field .   NO GLOVES, NO PLUMES! Please arrive at the trailer by 5:45 PM.  Senior Presentations begin at 6:15 PM! SENIORS:  You and your escorts should meet in the end zone at 6:10 PM tonight in preparation for senior presentations!

High School Choir Fall Exchange Concert

High School Concert Choir Don't forget to turn in your permission slips for our upcoming Festival of Choirs. On the day of the concert we will be having pizza with all of the choirs before the concert. Please bring in your $5 by Friday. Also, each school is in charge of bringing something to share and we are in charge of chips. Please bring a bag of chips to share with the other choirs during dinner Monday. Families please plan to join us for this fun culminative concert! Below is the original letter that was sent home. Greetings choir family! We are off to the start of a very exciting year in choral music! This school year we will be traveling to Washington D.C. in the spring with the choir, hosting our first choral-only concert featuring all of the choirs 6th-12th grades in March, attending area honor choirs, solo and ensemble, and new this year participating in the inaugural Fall Festival of Choirs at Olentangy Berlin high school. Week of October 1st, 2018 Marching Band: Monday, 10/1 - Marching Band Practice 3:00-4:45 PM  (Have your drill books!) Wednesday, 10/3 - NO AFTER SCHOOL BAND PRACTICE! Friday, 10/5 - Marching Band Practice 3:00-4:00 PM followed by band dinner (TRUMPETS) and away game at Mt. Gilead . Saturday, Oct. 6th - New Albany Marching Band Show .  (Tickets and shout-outs available on Centerburg Music Facebook)  Tickets:  $8 (on line-sale) and $10 (at the gate). Band Member Report Time:  4:15 PM. Buses Leave:  4:45 PM. Food Trucks Open:  5:30 PM Show Begins:  7:00 PM Centerburg is next to last in the line-up!  No actual performance times. Looking Ahead... Marching Band:   As of the week of October 8th, marching band will practice on Wednesdays and Fridays only! Jazz Band:  Practices are scheduled for Tuesday nights from 7 - 8:30 PM .  Jazz band grading process will begin the first week of the 2nd marking period.

Week of September 24th Congratulations Marching Band for a great job this past Saturday at the Westerville Central Band Show.  Sorry it was so short!! Marching Band:  This week... Monday:  NO after-school marching band practice! Wednesday:   Marching Band practice 3-5 PM - Homecoming Parade at 7 PM . (everyone please meet at the post office by 6:45 PM .)  Jeans, shorts and polos! Weekly Update (9/10-10/14)

Weekly Announcements Sept. 10th - 14th, 2018 Monday Marching Band:  Please have your instruments, dots and drill books.  We will be finishing-up Bohemian! 6th Grade Band:  Your first playing quiz is during your lesson this week.  Please be prepared and always check your assignments on Google Classroom !  Parents please be advised that lessons are assigned on a bi-weekly basis, are listed on Google Classroom and students should be diligently working on them outside of school for 15 - 20 minutes per night .  A 10 point grade is assigned to each student during every lesson based on their progress. 7th Grade Band:  Please look for a letter going home to parents concerning the purchase of the Traditions of Excellence Book II.   Checks and forms are due in the band office by Wednesday, Sept. 19th and should be payable to Centerburg Middle School. 5th Grade Band Meeting Is your 5th grader interested in Band? There is a lot of information to be covered regarding fifth grade band…. What instrument should my child play? When will they have band class? How do I get an instrument for my child? What if I already have an instrument?   I want to answer all of these questions for you and any others that you might have! Attention Parents...!

Attention Parents...! Band Handbook Correction:   The Music Booster Meetings have been changed for this year to the 3rd Tuesday of each month.   As usual, we welcome any and all parents who have youngsters in choir or band from grade 6-12 to join us!  The next meeting is tomorrow night (Tuesday, Aug. 21st) - in the band room)  The marching band is in " desperate " need of 2 items: 1)  A power source (power pack, generator,etc...) anything! that is capable of handling 3000 watts of power.  We need it for football field use for the pit (front ensemble)  synthesizer, sound system and bass amp at half time performances, practices and festivals / competitions.  If anyone can loan us one  (needs to be quiet obviously) or donate one that would be absolutely super! Correction to the May Concert Date

In the Choir handbook that was sent home with students there was a typo for the May concert. The correct date/time for that concert is Sunday May 5, 2019 from 5pm-8pm. Thanks for your understanding! Also, the calendar tab on the blog is always being updated with events that the music department is involved with so that you can stay up to date. How to Sign Up for REMIND

Remind is a tool that we use similar to communicate with students and parents about things happening in the Music Department. The system works similarly to the One Call System used by our school district. It's a way for teachers to be able to text students and parents without exchanging actual phone numbers. Welcome Back to School!

Announcements #1! Welcome Back! High School Band & Choir Washington D.C. Performance Trip March 21st , 22nd and 23rd , 2018 (Just before  Spring Break!) The music department is hosting an Educational Performance Trip to Washington D.C. this spring and we would love to have as many high school band and choir members participate as we can! If you're interested or have questions please attend the: Informational Meeting   (For students, staff and parents) August 28th at 7:00 PM CHS Auditorium 6th Grade Band & Choir :  Had a terrific start!  We have a record number of students enrolled this year!  Parents should be sure to sign and return music handbook sign-off sheets or Choir Commitment Form that came home with your student. Band Camp is Almost Here!

Getting ready for the new season! Congratulations! Super job during band camp everybody! We couldn't have asked for more! BUT... There's still work to be done! Thursday, Aug. 16th (1st day of school) "Quick" 9th period meeting in band room followed by indoor sectionals Friday, Aug. 17th We WILL march outside during 9th period (Bohemian Review - Up to set #24!) Please go over your pages and mark your spots! Monday, Aug. 20th 1st After-school marching band practice! (Also - be prepared to go outside and march 9th period! Winding-Up the School Year!

Last School-Year Blog Post Announcements: May 9th & May 16th:   2018-19 Drum Line Meetings / Practices (7:00-8:30 PM - MANDATORY) If you are planning on marching this coming season you need to be at these meetings! Friday, May 18th:     ALL 6th grade student-owned instruments MUST go home.  Any school-owned instruments being used by 6th graders must be left in the band room in front of the white board for inventory check! Saturday, May 19th:  7th & 8th Grade Band/Choir competition trip to King's Island .  Students should arrive no later than 7:30 AM .  Buses will leave promptly at 8:00 AM .  We cannot wait for any straglers, and if you do miss the bus your money cannot be refunded!  Be sure to bring money for food (McDonalds or the like for breakfast at 9:00 AM, and 2 meals in the park - $10 each?) Spring Update... Centerburg Music and Arts Festival Please join us this Sunday, May 6th at 6:00pm in the High School Gym! The evening will include music from Orff Ensemble 5th Grade Band 6th Grade Band and Choir 7/8th Grade Band and Choir Middle School Jazz Band High School Band and Choir High School Jazz Band We will also be featuring Artwork from Elementary, Middle and High School students! Upcoming Events:    PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! OMEA Performance Reminder:   High School Band should report to the school library by 10:00 AM this morning (Saturday, March 3rd).   Our performance time is 11:15 AM.  Performance attire is "black & white"!  See you there! Annual Marching Band Organizational Meeting:  Wednesday, April 25th at 7 PM (auditorium) ( This is a yearly MANDATORY meeting for ALL students and at least one of their parents who will participating in next season's marching band).  There will be a brief " updated " slide show followed by individual student meetings to determine what supplies and/or equipment will be needed for band. NOTE:  Parents may pay for their child's marching band costs at this time! March 8th Concert:    Featuring both the 7th /8th grade and high school choirs and bands is on Thursday, March 8th at 7:00 PM .  Middle School students are asked to arrive by 6:30 PM and high school students by 7:0

Mid-Winter Update OMEA Solo and Ensemble Adjudications at Granville HS Saturday, Feb 3rd Bus leaves CHS at 7:00 AM - Permission slips and soloist ($18) fees now due. Concessions available during the day Families and friends welcome to observe performances 7th & 8th Grade Band & Choir Evaluation Festival & Fun Day at King's Island Friday, May 18th Buses will leave by 7:00 AM and most likely return around 11:00 PM Cost per pupil is $44 ( includes festival and park entrance fee. Students will need to bring money for lunch and dinner. Watch for an informational letter to be mailed home to parents. Denison Concert Band Clinic (field trip):  The high school band will attend a field trip to Denison University on Tuesday, February 20th .  Students will be back in time for buses and after-school activities.  The band will be performing their required selections in preparation for their upcoming OMEA Adjudication in March, and will be receiving critique and clinic
