Parade Week Update #2

Some last minute reminders and details...

Heart of Ohio U.S.A. Days Parade:  Is this Saturday, June 22nd.  (Details below)

1)  We will load the band trailer between 10:00 and 10:30 AM

2)  Parade step-off is at 11:00 AM  ( Khakis, red band polos & white sneakers )

3)  Who should be participating?  Answer:  If you are a 2019 - 20 marching band member and are in town on parade day then you should be marching!  "IF" you are NOT in town, are on vacation, at camp or involved in an athletic activity during the time of the parade then we should have received an e-mail from home to that effect.  We really need to know "who" we will have marching!

4)  In-coming freshmen and new members are welcome (and encouraged) to participate in the parade although they are "technically" not bound to marching band until band camp begins, it would be a great experience learning to march now!

Friday (June 21st) Marching Band Practice:  Is from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the band room.  We will have brief sectionals, full "indoor" practice, followed by setting-up outside in the parade block and running through the street cadences and music.  (More below)

1)  Our new flip folios will NOT be in by the parade and the old ones are all taken apart so...  we will provide you with all the parade music and a small cardboard backing to attach to your lyre (if you need one to march).  Lyres are available at all music stores and are your responsibility!

2)  We will (as usual) bring along music stands for the performance in the park so bring a couple clothes pins to keep your music on the stand!

NEW High School Music Class:  Because Mrs. Culbertson has been hired as a full time teacher beginning in August, she has inherited some of Mr. Dettmar's usual course load, enabling him to have more time to work with high school band students PLEASE see Mr. Parpart (or shoot him an e-mail) and tell him you'd like to register for the class called "INSTRUMENTAL TECHNIQUES"  which is basically music lessons on your instrument(s), coaching for honor band or college auditions or OMEA solo work.  It's also meant to serve students who wish to become more proficient on their instruments, enabling them to maybe perform at the college level someday.  The class structure is very relaxed, and much time will be spent in a self-directed nature - with Mr. D. as a facilitator and coach!  Don't be shy!  Don't sit in study hall and play video games!  Sign-up!

Marching Band Camp 2019:  Much time and effort has gone into reading every one of the band students' recommendations for the future of the Trojan Pride Band, and band camp dates and schedules have been radically adjusted in order to eliminate any schedule conflicts (other than some school athletics).  Both the Mini-Camp activities during the week of July 22nd-July 25th AND the Band Camp during the Week of July 29th - August 2nd are MANDATORY.  We have very little time to put together everything AND we have practically cut the band camp experience in half from what it was.  Attendance, therefore, is paramount and we desperately ask students and parents alike to PLEASE plan ahead when it comes to doctor's appointments, drivers ed. stuff, work, family activities, etc...  These are the 2 weeks out of the entire year that we absolutely need you!  Thanks for your anticipated cooperation and have a great rest of the summer!

Finally...  The marching band personnel (roster) is now in place, the show has been sent to the drill writer, parts have been assigned and sections are in stone!  We cannot entertain anymore additions or subtractions from the band roster as would mean re-writing whole sections of the drill and re-assignment of parts.    Thanks for your consideration!
