Happy New Year!

Mid-Winter Update:

Welcome back!  The bands and choirs are in full swing preparing for upcoming concerts, performances and OMEA Solo / Ensemble weekend.  Below please find some updates...

OMEA District 10 Solo & Ensemble is this Saturday, January 26th.  The bus will leave at 7:00 AM for Granville.  "If" you are not performing until later in the morning or afternoon then you may provide your own transportation to and from, but please let Mr. D. and Mrs. Culbertson know by Wednesday!   The performance schedule is posted on the white board!

High School Jazz Band:  Will rehearse on Monday evenings from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM beginning on Monday, January 14th.  The next practice is on Monday evening, Jan. 28th at 7 PM!

Middle School Jazz Band:  Is open to any band student in grades 6-8.  Sign-ups will be posted on the white board on Friday, January 11th.  While we'd love to take everyone, preference will go to the most advanced players.  Practices will be from 6:00 - 7:00 PM on Mondays evenings and attendance is mandatory.  If chosen a permission slip will go home to be signed by both parents and band member.

OMEA Solo / Ensemble Weekend:  Is schedules for Saturday, January 26th.  Students will need to be at school early.

Instrumental Accompaniment for OMEA solos will be provided on Tuesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 24th. beginning at 5:00 PM.  All soloists should sign-up (on the white board) for time slots on both days so they can be prepared for the 26th!

Marching Band Update:  Dates for 2019 Band Camp:  Looking at the "end of the summer" calendar, we attempted to do the best we could to not have camp interfere with either of the 2 county fairs and/or athletic practices.  We came very close!  PLEASE MAKE YOUR PLANS NOW!! The result is as follows...

Mini Band Camp:  Week of July 22nd - 26th (mainly guard and percussion, some woodwind, brass, large group and percussion sectionals for 2-3 hour long practices on certain days  (Exact schedule TBA)Band Camp:  Week of July 29th - August 2nd.   Camp will begin at 9:00 AM and finish at 6:00 PM each and every day, obviously with lunch and breaks throughout.  WE WILL NEED EVERYONE PRESENT AT ALL TIMES FOR THIS PARTICULAR WEEK UNLESS INVOLVED IN A SCRIMMAGE OR ACTUAL GAME OR MATCH!  Because we are working with band students in regards to their other school activities and summer-time and fair schedules we need to absolutely insist on having everyone present on these 5 days.  Go Trojans!

6th & 7th Grade Instrumental Lessons:  Just a reminder to all parents that band students are to be diligently practicing at home their assigned exercises. (View on Google Classroom) Examples are listened to and graded during each and every group intervention period lesson.

Congratulations current 8th grade band!  95% of our current 8th grade band members are leaning toward continuing on into high school band!  Mr. Parpart will be asking you soon about your electives.  Be sure to place "band" as #1 because all your other classes will be scheduled around it!  Cool!

Washington DC High School Band and Choir Trip:  Just a reminder that the DC trip is right around the corner!  Make sure you're all paid up and practice your music!!!

Middle School (7th & 8th)  Band & Choir Kings Island trip and Competition:  Is slated for Saturday, May 18th.  We're still determining the cost, but it should be about the same as it was last year!  We will need some parent chaperones so contact Mr. D. or Mrs. Culbertson to sign-on!
