Newbie Test and other things...

Announcement

1)  The "Newbie" (new member) take-home test will be distributed on this coming Monday, Sept. 26th and is due by the end of the day on Tuesday, Sept. 27th.  The test material deals with band procedures and is open book.  All study information has been distributed in the band classes.  If you are a new member and did not receive them please see us ASAP!  While test results are not part of the student's band "grade", new members will need to pass it in order to enjoy full participation, especially in performances.

2)  Marching Band Absences:  While we work schedule-wise with those students who are also involved in fall sports and/or other school-related activities, we are currently being inundated with students missing after school band practice for other reasons, mainly driver training, doctor, orthodontist or dentist appointments, etc...  We realize that sometimes we need to take the appointment we're given, but if we could all try to schedule general appointments that don't conflict with band it would be greatly appreciated.  We only have an hour and a half worth of practice on Monday and Wednesday and really need the time to work with the students.  Unlike other activities, when a fellow marcher is absent it makes it exceedingly difficult to work on fixing drill and teaching new moves, including changes and additions to the music.  Thank you very much for your anticipated cooperation!   If a student does need to miss we ask that you please either e-mail us or bring in a note a couple days before.  The day-of presents problems for us as we've already put together all of our plans for that day!

3)  This Saturday, Sept. 24th:  The band will have pizza and soda between their practice and loading of buses for the Mt. Vernon Show this Saturday.  We are asking all marching band members and band aides to please bring-in $3 on Friday.  Mrs. Culbertson and Mr. Dettmar will collect money during the 8th grade and high school band periods.  There will NOT be time enough for anyone to go out to get food.  If you don't want pizza then be sure to bring in your own food before practice begins!  There will also be a concession stand at Mt. Vernon in which students may partake following their performance!
