Weekly Update . (Jan. 13th - 17th)
Great First Week Back Everybody!
We were really impressed by the way that everybody jumped right back in. Didn't see a lazy bone in the bunch..............well, maybe 1 or 2. The OMEA Solo and Ensemble people are kickin' it and doing a super job, and the bands and choirs are taking it to the next level!!
#1 Indoor Percussion: will meet Monday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 PM. Students may be bringing home a permission slip for a trip to attend [as spectators] an indoor percussion competition (Date TBA) and will soon be starting their own indoor percussion show!
#2 . High School Jazz Band: will meet from 7:00 - 8:30 PM Monday evening. Please practice the more difficult areas of your music beforehand. We will be working on Lulu's Left Town and Reflections of Rio.
#3 . Color Guard: There will a meeting for all current color guard members (including seniors) at 6:00 PM on Monday evening in the choir room. The meeting should take about 30 minutes.
#4 . Band & Choir Essays: The CHS and CMS Administration has determined that writing samples (essays) are deemed necessary from all students in all classes on a once-per-marking period basis. Most middle school essays are 1 page in length double spaced) and high schools essays are 1.5 pages in length (also double spaced). We are attempting to make the reading prompts (articles) as interesting and as "important to band & Choir students" as possible, but do see some merit in the assignment because we obviously all need to become good writers!
#5 . Next Year's Spring Band & Choir Trip: High School band and choir students were given the opportunity to vote on either a New Orleans or Disney experience for next spring 2021. We (the music faculty) are currently sitting and discussing both ideas and making changes to the proposed trip itineraries so the kids get the most out of the trip. As of this point what we do know is that the New Orleans trip will come in at least $300 less per participant. Mr. D. was down in New Orleans over Holiday break and did a lot of research into the best venues for our students. We'll keep you updated!
#6 . 7th & 8th Grade Band and Choir Trip (competition) to Wilmington High School & King's Island Amusement Park: is slated for Saturday, May 16th. The Centerburg Music Boosters have already paid the registration fees and a parental flyer will be coming home by midweek so please ask your child for it. The competition is important to all the students in these music groups so we are letting you know about it this far in advance so you can pencil it in on your calendar. Everybody is needed, and it's a once-a-year opportunity and truly a "team effort"!
#7 . OMEA (Ohio Music Educator's Association) Solo & Ensemble Adjudication is slated for Saturday, February 8th. Students have been registered and special timing requests have been noted for those students who need to take the ACT's on that particular morning. The bus will leave around 7 AM that morning so some students will need to find rides to Granville HS. As a note... Students may leave Granville if being picked-up by their parents, but we'd like to know in advance. No last minute surprises please. Students should not be driving themselves unless permission has been granted and under no circumstances is a student to be driven by another student. This is a school-sanctioned activity and we need to follow the rules! Good luck everybody!!!
