Attention all 7th and 8th Grade Band & Choir Parents...
A cover letter, permission slip and t-shirt order form went home last Friday for the music competition trip on Saturday, May 18th. The first trip payment of $25 is due by March 8th. Obviously you may feel free to pay the entire $55 if you'd like. As is communicated in the letter, the fee includes transportation, a music t-shirt and entrance into the festival AND King's Island Amusement Park. Food is purchased individually. This is an "adjudicated performance" and we ask all students to treat it as such. The band and choir will be judged, rated and scored by 2-3 university band and choir directors. Students should treat the trip how they would any "championship-type" activity. ALL Musicians are needed on this day!!! ABSOLUTELY NO PERMISSION SLIPS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE MARCH 8TH CUT-OFF. Thanks!!!
It's T-Shirt Design Time: 7th & 8th grade band and choir members may audition their King's Island Day t-shirt designs for consideration! Designs are due by Monday, March 18th. Simply go to "Custom Ink" and follow the prompts for designing a shirt. (Final cost must stay under $10 per shirt). We'll need about 110 of them. Then... Print-out your design and submit it to either Mr. D. or Mrs. Culbertson. Again, the deadline in Monday, March 18th. Good Luck!
Congratulations...! to all the CHS band and choir students who participated in this year's OMEA (Ohio Music Educator's Association) Solo & Ensemble Festival at Granville High School. Weather you received and IV, III, II or the coveted I we are proud of you! It takes guts and determination to perform on this level. Go Trojan Pride!

Attention Parents of 8th Grade Band Members...
The final 8th grade performance exam will take place during the 3rd week of April. This is a very important test that is weighted as heavily as a concert (100 points), but is purely an individual endeavor. The test is 3-fold in that it: a) confirms the student is performing on grade level and is truly prepared to enter a high school-level ensemble, b) serves as a final exam grade for their 8th grade year and finally, c) acts as a tool to determine high school concert band and marching band chairplacement for the fall season. Students will be given 4 weeks to prepare a) a snippet from a solo, b) 3 prescribed scales (including a 1 octave chromatic scale) and/or basic snare drum rudiments, c) portions of their Spring season band music and finally, d) sight reading (of which each student will be given in advance in order to figure out and work-on. At the end of the individual playing test there will be a 2 minute brief interview with each student in order to address any questions or concerns they may have about the high school program (or other).
Good luck everybody!
