Welcome Winter Season
Lots of exciting stuff!
Thank you, Thank you! to all the parents who volunteered their time at the Utica/Centerburg Bandtoberfest on October 21st! The directors salute you and appreciate the time and effort you put in to the event.
Monday, Nov. 20th at 7:00 PM (caf) Marching Band Awards Banquet and Reception
Awards: ( 1st year pins, 2nd year letters, service bars ) for all members, as well as special awards. Everyone is asked to bring a dessert to share.
NEW! Indoor Winter Percussion (Includes drum line and pit percussion) - Open to ALL students in grades 8-12 regardless of their participation in band. First practice is Monday, November 13th from 3-4 PM. Attendance at all Monday practices is mandatory. No exceptions!
2017 CHS Athletic Pep Band: Sign-ups are currently on the white board in the band room. Students are asked to please place check marks by the basketball games they are able to attend and be sure to be present! ( Any band student in grades 8-12 is eligible as well as those younger students who helped us out this past season) Pep Band Games are as follows:
Tues. Dec. 5th - First Practice at 6:00 PM followed by the game. Students in their gymnasium seats by 7:15 PM
Wed. Dec 20th - Practice at 6:00 PM followed by the game (same as above)
Tues. Jan. 16th -Report time is 7 PM.
Fri. Jan. 26th - Report ime is 7 PM.
Wed. Feb. 7th - Report time is 7 PM.
Fri. Feb. 9th - Report time is 7 PM.
Fri. Feb 16th - Report time is 7 PM.
Knox County Honor Band Information: ( HS & MS )
Monday, Nov. 13th @6:30 PM ( MS students report to Mt. Vernon MS, HS students report to Mt. Vernon HS).
Tuesday, Nov. 14th: Honor Band Field trip to the Memorial Theater in Mt. Vernon. Permission slips have been distributed and are due "signed" in the band office ASAP. The bus will leave at 7:50 AM and will return by the end of the school day. Lunch is included! The concert is that evening at 7:00 PM and students are asked to report to the theater by 6:30 PM!
OMEA District Honor Band Information:
Monday, Nov. 28th @ 6:30 PM ( MS students report to Mt. Vernon MS, HS students report to Mt. Vernon HS )
Saturday, Dec. 2nd @ 8:00 AM ( Both MS and HS students report to Mt. Vernon Nazarene University - Hodges Chapel for registration at 8:00 AM). Rehearsals begin at 8:30 AM Lunch is provided at no charge in the university's student center . Concert is scheduled for that same afternoon at 3:30 PM. Students will be told what to wear at the rehearsals. All students need to pay $10 (checks made payable to the Centerburg Music Boosters) and will receive a CD of the concert, lunch and an honor band t-shirt!
Marching Band Performance: Friday, November 17th "Meet the Team Night" All marching band members in the pep rally seats by 7:15 PM. Finished by 9:30 PM!
6th and 7th Grade Band Student Intervention Lessons: We have included the 7th grade in the mix for lessons during 3rd period intervention. Students will come to the band room for an in depth group lesson once every 2 weeks during 3rd period intervention. Note: Intervention teachers may, at their discretion, keep a student from attending their lesson if they owe work or are behind in any way. "IF" this happens please be sure to check with Mr. D. what you missed! You'll still be responsible for practicing the material. This lesson rotation is proving to be absolutely invaluable as the students are progressing twice as quickly as they ordinarily do!!! Congrats!
Google Classroom Assignments: (Middle School)
Hey Everyone! Playing an instrument is more than just showing up to band! The main work we do is through our Google Classroom Assignments! Please stay on top of them and record them or play them for Mr. D. when you're supposed to. It's easy. Don't fall behind!
